WORKS MINISTER: ‘BIDS FOR PHASE 2 OF THE MUHARRAQ
RING ROAD AND THE FOURTH FLYOVER PROJECT OPENED’
HE the Minister
of Works, Municipalities Affairs & Urban Planning Eng. Essam bin Abdulla
Khalaf announced the opening of bids related to the consultation services for
Phase 2 of Muharraq Ring Road Project and the 4th flyover connecting
Manama to Muharraq; starting from Dair- Diyar Al Muharraq and extending to
Busaiteen to connect to North Manama Causeway Interchange. The Ministry is presently working on the
financial and technical evaluation to the bids presented.
According to the
Minister, the Ministry has initiated the tendering process for the project in
response to directives from HRH the Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al
Khalifa to create a fourth flyover connecting Muharraq and the Capital and
North Busaiteen and Bahrain Bay. The engineering designs have been presented to
HRH, and he has approved of them.
The Minister
revealed that phase 2 of the project is to be implemented over 3 stages, the
first of which will target reclamation and levelling works. Once work starts,
traffic studies will be prepared and documents covering stage 2 will also be
completed. Stage 2 comprises of civil works and paving of dirt lanes. In
parallel to works involved in stage 2, engineering designs for the marine
flyover and the main interchange connecting to North Manama Causeway will be
implemented; forming stage 3 of the project.
‘The total
length of the project is 7.8km (including the 4.2km long Muharraq Ring Road and
the 3.6km long fourth flyover between the Interchange of Saya Project and North
Manama Causeway. A 110m wide main road will also be provided as part of the
project,’ said the Minister.
‘The project
aims to provide an additional link to Muharraq; serving Qalali, Dair, Samaheej,
Busaiteen, Diyyar Al Muharraq, Amwaj, Dilmunia, Saya and the housing projects
in the area. Future expansion to Bahrain International Airport will also take
place, in addition to connecting Muharraq Ring Road to North Bahrain Ring
Road,’ he added.
The fourth
flyover will also connect Muharraq to Manama and the investment projects in
Muharraq to the commercial areas in Manama (the Diplomatic Area, Bahrain Bay
and Bahrain Financial Harbour), thus supporting economic development in Bahrain
and serving economic and housing projects in North Muharraq. Also, the 4th
flyover will enhance traffic to Bahrain International Airport and Khalifa bin
Salman Port.
The Ministry is
presently working on the completion of phase 1 of Muharraq Ring Road; starting
from the entrance to Galali and Amwaj and ending at the entrance to Diyar Al
Muharraq, passing through the entrances to Samaheej and Dair. The project
comprises of transforming the one way road with one lane on each direction into
a dual road with 3 lanes on each direction, with the possibility top add a
fourth lane on each direction in the future; at the part located between the
intersection of Galali and Samahaeej (at the length of 8.4km). The project will
provide a high traffic volume dual road on the Eastern side of the island.
