PLANNED FOR HANDOVER TO EDUCATION MINISTRY IN 2015 THIRD QUARTER
AL MOTAWA INSPECTS WADI AL SAIL PRIMARY/INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL FOR GIRLS
Assistant Undersecretary for Construction Projects & Maintenance at the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs & Urban Planning Eng. Mona Al Motawa revealed that the Ministry has completed all construction works at Wadi Al Sail Primary/Intermediate School for Girls at the Southern Governorate. Present in the visit was also Director of Construction Projects Eng. Wadeea Marzooq and a number of engineers from the Ministry.
Al Motawa stated that all works are hoped to be completed and handed over the Ministry of Education in the 3rd quarter of this year.
Wadi Al Sail Primary/Intermediate School for Girls was previously awarded to Gulf House for Trade & Contracting at a cost of BD3,759,499. The Government has allocated a piece of land of a total area of 28.673m2 and a construction land of a total area of 16.626m2.
The 4 storey school building comprises of 38 classrooms; 22 classrooms for the primary stage and 16 classrooms for the intermediate stage, with a capacity to accommodate 1533 students.
The school also includes multi-purpose laboratories for science, computer, home science and the library, in addition to offices for the teaching and administrative faculty, sports hall, other service facilities such as toilets and store rooms. All classrooms contain all state-of-the-art educational needs. The school also comprises of a multi-purpose hall, a guard room, electricity sub-station and a cafeteria.
Al Motawa explained that the school building has been designed based on the latest MoE’s requirements, which include sustainability, green buildings and energy saving measures; such as thermal insulation for roofs and walls, double-glazing windows to reduce noise, sensor taps in bathrooms, energy saving lighting systems, acoustically insulated vinyl flooring, and paints with low volatile and anti-carbon organic compounds to paint walls internally and externally.
The design also takes into account providing all the facilities needed for students and staff with special needs and also pregnant women, such as constructing a special parking lot close to the main school entrance, providing slopes on all entrances, using non-slip vinyl flooring in all rooms, corridors and stairways, in addition to providing 4 elevators close to all entrances and toilets with a size that properly accommodates the needs of those students.
72 Parking spaces will also be provided, in addition to a bus-stop and a waiting area for students.
