AL
MANSOOR INSPECTS SEWERAGE PROJECT IN NABEH SALEH ISLAND
The Assistant Undersecretary
for Sanitary Engineering at the Ministry of Works, Municipalities & Urban
Planning Eng. Khalifa Al Mansoor visited the Sewerage and Storm Water Drainage
Network Project in Nabeh Saleh Island; serving 320 real estates in Blocks 380,
381 and 382.
The project comprises of implementing a
sewerage network at a length of 13km, and a storm water drainage network at a
length of 6km, in addition to a pressure extension of a length of 1.5km to
carry sewerage flow from Nabeh Saleh to North Sitra Treatment Plant. The
project also includes implementing a 2km long line to transfer treated waters
from North Sitra Treatment Plant to Sh. Jaber Al Ahmed Al Sabah Avenue.
The project is now 67%
complete, and 85% of real estates on the island have been connected to the
network; with 273 real estates connected to the network and 47 real estates to
be connected by the end of May 2015.
The project faced a number of
obstacles and difficulties; namely the emission of toxic and suffocating gases
like methane and Hydrogen
sulfide, which necessitated handling the issue with utmost care and caution.
Naturally, that reflected on the project negatively. Al Mansoor urged the
project contractor to adhere to occupational health and safety measures and
requirements and provide all traffic diversions requirements, in addition to
adhering to the terms of other service entities involved.
The
BD4,740,178 project was awarded to Jalal Al A’Ali & Sons (JASCO), while the
project consultant is MWH Khonji. Work is expected to complete in the fourth
quarter of 2015.
