TO SUPPLY POWER TO THE PORT IN EMERGENCIES
WORKS MINISTRY COMPLETES BACKUP POWER GENERATORS PROJECT IN KHALIFA BIN SALMAN PORT

The Assistant Undersecretary for Construction Projects & Maintenance at the Ministry of Works, Municipalities & Urban Planning Eng. Mona Al Motawa revealed that the Ministry has recently completed the implementation of the backup power generators at Khalifa bin Salman Port in Hidd; belonging to the Ministry of Transport & Communications and represented by the Ports Directorate. Work commenced in July 2014.

Al Motawa explained that the project is a complementary project to Khalifa bin Salman Port Project, comprising of constructing 2 buildings supplied with two 600 KVA generators with the related electromechanical works. The implementation of the project aims to accommodate the growing investment evolution in Bahrain, and also comes as a response to calls from the Ministry of Transport Communications to improve the industry sector, attract more foreign and local investments and keep pace with global, continental and regional developments.

The Project aims to supply essential and sensitive tools and equipment with power in cases of power cuts in Khalifa bin Salman Port, where the backup generators will supply power within seconds only. The project will serve the terminal, the customs building, the medical quarantine building and the food inspection building.


The BD299,214 project was implemented by Crown M. S Electrical & Mechanical Contracting. Work was supervised by the project consultant UK’s HaskoningDHV/ACE Al Moayed. Work took 8 months to complete.
